Hello!
Dr. Patty Schroeder (PSY26198) is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist based out of San Diego, California. A passion for helping women recover from eating disorders and poor body image led Dr. Schroeder to pursue her career in psychology. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan and her doctoral degree from California School of Professional Psychology, Alliant International University in 2009. The focus of her doctoral dissertation was media’s impact on adolescent girls with eating disorders.
Dr. Schroeder completed her post-doctoral internship at Healthy Within in 2013 under the supervision of Dr. Divya Kakaiya. She was a proud member of Healthy Within’s treatment team for over 5 years as a program therapist with their IOP, and also treating individuals and families. She facilitated the weekly ANAD support group there for 11 years. For over 2 1/2 years, Dr. Schroeder served as a core therapist at Bright Heart Health, the FIRST Telehealth IOP for eating disorders, providing "face-to-face" online therapy with clients all over the country.
She continues to specialize in helping people heal from disordered eating, body image issues, and internalized "Diet Culture" harm using a Health At Every Size perspective. Dr. Schroeder also works with persons who have physical disabilities in adapting to a different way of being. Her personal experiences in adjusting to life after a spinal cord injury provide her with a uniquely understanding and empathetic stance in her work. Dr. Schroeder is a Level 2 EMDR trained therapist. She resonates well with working from a place of wellness and strength, and incorporates CBT, DBT skills, Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into her therapeutic work. She is also a Teen Wisdom™ graduate Life Coach devoted to supporting and empowering teen girls.
Dr. Schroeder is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Treatment Professionals (iaedp), and served as the Certification Chair for San Diego Chapter Leadership from 2014-2019. She is also a member of the Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH) and the San Diego Psychological Association (SDPA).
Though she was born and raised in San Diego, she has deep Midwestern roots and is an avid Wolverine sports fan – GO BLUE! She also enjoys listening to music, dog-time with her pooch Zeke, cooking, and being near the ocean.
